Gilded marissa meyers5/31/2023 ![]() ![]() With the Erlking only able to summon Serilda on the Full Moon, the book is broken up over the course of a few moon cycles. The plot is well paced and a gripping ride. Serilda is an excellent protagonist, and this time around, she may be the hero who saves the day. But she is loving, caring and courageous as well. She strong willed, stubborn, and can’t help speaking even when the wiser choice would be to remain client. Both struggle with loneliness and the hurts caused by the Erlking (known or unknown). Serilda and Gild have a cheekiness to their natures which plays so well off each other. While Meyer utilizes key plot points from the fairy tale, she flips the characters on their heads. These three different aspects may sound like a lot, but Meyer does an excellent job weaving together layers of this world that are affected by these various forces. ![]() There are also the nature spirits, ruled and protected by Pusch-Grohla. However, the dark ones still live behind the veil except for on the full moon when they ride their wild hunt. The dark ones are demons, escaped from Verloren, the land of the dead. There are 7 gods who reign over certain aspects of life – similar to the greek and roman gods. Drawing on the the original fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin as well as Germanic folklore, the world is steeped in myth. ![]() First, the setting of Gilded it fantastic. ![]()
